Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth, also known as The Bizarre Adventures of Woodruff and the Schnibble in North America, is a 1995 French adventure game developed by Coktel Vision.
Created by Pierre Gilhodes, known for the Gobliiins series, the game showcases a unique visual style, gameplay, and humor.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, players embark on a thrilling quest to restore harmony to a dystopian city.
A Dystopian Setting
The game is set in a world devastated by an atomic war. After centuries of seeking refuge underground, humans return to the surface to find a lush jungle and mutants, including the peaceful Bouzouk tribe.
The Bouzouk, with their distinctive features, maintained harmony by guarding a sacred containment unit called the Chprotznog.
However, the humans, failing to learn from history, wage war on the Bouzouks, leading to their enslavement and the rise of the oppressive city of Vlurxtrznbnaxl.
The Present Dystopia
The game begins a century later, with Vlurxtrznbnaxl transformed into a nightmarish dystopia ruled by a totalitarian government.
The reclusive President is represented by the corrupt advisor, the BigWig. Tensions between humans and Bouzouks escalate, giving rise to the Bouzouk Freedom Party.
Professor Azimuth, a sympathetic figure, aims to unleash the Schnibble, a mystical entity believed to bring peace and prosperity during times of need, to end the oppression.
An Epic Quest
Woodruff, Professor Azimuth’s adopted half-human, half-Bouzouk son, is forced into action when the BigWig kidnaps his father and wreaks havoc on their home.
Aided by a Viblefrotzer that rapidly ages him, Woodruff sets on a heroic quest to rescue his father, avenge his beloved teddy bear’s death, and uncover the secrets of the Schnibble to restore harmony to the city.
Gameplay: A Point-and-Click Adventure
Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth offers a relatively simple point-and-click interface similar to Sierra’s King’s Quest VII. Players use the cursor to interact with objects and characters by highlighting them. Woodruff’s inventory allows him to combine items to progress in the game.
The game’s humor is evident, with Woodruff mocking the player if they attempt to combine unrelated items.
Did you know? Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth was created by Pierre Gilhodes, the mastermind behind the Gobliiins series, but the game is not officially part of the Gobliiins series or canon.
